Jo Stewart was born in Michigan and lived in various locations in the Midwest before migrating south to Arkansas

years ago. She studied creative writing at the graduate level but did not receive a degree in that discipline. She has taught at all levels in the public education system, including pre-kindergarten students in Head Start, juniors and seniors in high school English, and freshman in college-level composition classes. She is certified to teach gifted and talented students and recently left a job as an instructor at Job Corps, where she helped students prepare for the GED exam. She has worked as a copy editor for the statewide, daily newspaper in Arkansas, and for three years she published and edited a monthly newspaper called Arkansas Women's Journal. She was an editor for the Arkansas Legislative Digest and for a company called Mediascan of America, overseeing a crew of transcribers of nightly television news broadcasts. She has also worked in various capacities in the nonprofit sector. She enjoys dancing, gardening, cooking, and traveling. She reads modern fiction by women authors and travelogues.
