Papercheck Wiki Used as a Reference for External Writers and Editors
SAN FRANCISCO, Aug. 20 /PRNewswire/ --
The Papercheck senior editing staff has developed an internal style guide that is now being used by editors and authors outside of Papercheck. The Papercheck Wiki, http://writing-style-guide.papercheck.com, initially written for the 30-person proofreading staff, is being referenced frequently on blogs, websites, message boards, and social networking sites.
The content of this Web tool was originally distributed to Papercheck’s associate editors by the senior editing staff via email. Then the senior management quickly realized that the associate editors were being inundated with numerous emails referring to consistency and style guide changes. "We needed a central depository in which to store editing knowledge. Every time we trained a new associate editor, we had to teach him or her the style guide and forward multiple emails from years past," commented Diana Pitt, a senior editor at Papercheck. Mrs. Pitt continued, "Consistent editing is essential to satisfying our customer base. We work on tight deadlines, and multiple editors may work on different documents submitted by the same client. There is not enough time to share information over a webinar."
The San Francisco-based editing firm has recently made its wiki available to the general public. "The information we share on the wiki is not a secret. These are accepted standards in the writing and editing industry," stated Mrs. Pitt. Papercheck clients are encouraged to use the style guide to improve their essays, dissertations, term papers, and formal business documents. Papercheck's writing and editing wiki should be used when an author begins to write his or her document.
The Papercheck Wiki is not the first help guide published on http://www.papercheck.com. Papercheck published tutorials for Microsoft Word 2003 and 2007 when each of the word processing platforms were released. "We really strive to remove the technology barrier. English is difficult enough without adding the complexity of software," declared Mrs. Pitt.
Papercheck, LLC has provided proofreading services since 2001. Its professional proofreaders correct format, document flow and grammatical errors, including punctuation, verb tense, spelling, and sentence structure, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
