Papercheck Announces 2014 Charles Shafaé Scholarship Fund Winner

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (MARKET WIRE) — February 20, 2015 — Papercheck, LLC, a leader in elite level editing and proofreading services, announced that the 2014 Charles Shafaé Scholarship Fund winner is Alexis Grant, a rising junior at Howard University, where she is completing a degree in both English and Psychology.

Alexis and her family are from Farmington, Massachusetts, a suburb near Boston. She has two younger sisters who are in high school and a 9-year-old brother. In her spare time, Alexis loves playing tennis, singing, and learning to play the guitar. She is not only consistently on the Dean’s List but is also accomplished in a variety of extracurricular activities. She belongs to the Living Stones, a worship and arts ministry, and serves as its treasurer. She is a copy editor for the Hilltop, Howard University’s daily student newspaper, and also participates in the tennis club. Along with her extracurricular involvement and academic excellence, Alexis also finds the time to sing and is presently learning to play the guitar. After graduation, she would like to pursue a career in counseling or social work. She enjoys interning as a case manager at a local mental health institute, and she would like to continue working in that field.

Alexis’s winning essay focused on obesity, government subsidies, and the American agriculture industry.

Papercheck has released a new scholarship topic for 2015:
Increasing numbers of colleges and universities are offering not only individual courses but also entire degree programs online. Many educators, however, are concerned that online programs do not provide the same quality of education as an on-campus education provided in a classroom setting. They state that online classes deprive students of the invaluable experience of collaborating and working with other students. Academic honesty is also an issue in evaluating online courses and coursework. Proponents argue that an online education offers convenience and flexibility, enabling access to students who might not otherwise be able to earn a degree and complete their education. In your opinion, should colleges and universities offer degrees entirely online? Why or why not? Please discuss the issues around the question and the pros and cons.
