How to Use Traditional Editing - Open Office 3.0.1 and Microsoft Word

Bookmark and Share
Step 1:
Open your document using either Open Office 3.0.1 or Microsoft Word.

Step 2:
Move your cursor to the first correction in your document. In this example, the contractions It's has been changed to It is. Using your cursor, highlight the modified contraction.

Step 3:
Set the Text Highlight Color to No Color. This will remove the yellow color from "It is." Yellow is used to alert the user that a change has been made to a word. If an edited word requires three characters or fewer, the correction is entered into the document. The user must remove the yellow highlight to accept the change.

Step 4:
The editor's comments are written in blue font. In this case, it is an explanation of why the contraction was removed from your document. You can remove this editor comment; there is nothing further required for you to do to remove your editor's comments.

Step 5:
Once the comment is highlighted, you can cut the comment from the document by right clicking on the highlighted comment and selecting Cut. This will remove the comment from your document.

Step 6:
Green text is added to your document to improve the flow and clarify the thesis statement. To incorporate the change into your document, remove the highlight. You will first need to highlight the green text.

Step 7:
Set the Text Highlight Color to No Color. This will remove the green highlight from "for me."

Step 8:
Move your cursor to words highlighted in red. These are words and sentences that must be removed from your document. Highlight the red text to cut them from your document.

Step 9:
Right click the highlighted word and select Cut. This will ensure that words and sentences that do not clarify or which convolute your thesis statement are removed from your document.

Tip 1:
To quickly remove the words and sentences highlighted in red and incorporate the changes suggested by your editor, you will need to complete five steps. The first step is to remove the editor's comments and text highlighted in red. You can highlight multiple words and sentences by holding the CTRL button down while selecting the text.

Tip 2:
Once you have selected the words to be deleted and the editor's comments, right click and select Cut to remove them from your document.

Tip 3:
After you cut the editor comments and text highlighted in red, you can remove the yellow and green highlighting. This will ensure that your document is in its final form. Select the entire document by clicking CTRL+A.

Tip 4:
Once the remaining text has been highlighted, set the Text Highlight Color to No Color.

Tip 5:
After you have removed the yellow and green highlight, your document will be in its final form.
