Doug Nutter received his Ph.D. in Ecology and Evolution from the University of Chicago, where he studied marine community ecology. His scientific background includes training in experimental design and statistical analysis using both classical and maximum-likelihood approaches, with particular emphasis on multivariate techniques. He has taught courses in Environmental Ecology, Conservation Biology, and Population Biology. As director of the undergraduate program in Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, he helped develop methods and models for incorporating writing and other communication skills into the undergraduate curriculum.
He has done extensive copyediting for journals such as Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences USA and the Journal of Biological Chemistry, and has been a reviewer for journals including Ecology Letters. He also has extensive industrial experience with nutraceuticals and aquaculture, developing processes for the production and large-scale processing of biologically important lipids from microalgae. This breadth and depth of experience has served to provide a strong knowledge base in all aspects of the biological sciences and how to best communicate technical concepts to nontechnical audiences.
