Amy Cook was born in Fairbanks, Alaska and raised in Wenatchee, Washington. While earning her doctorate in English at the University of Pittsburgh, she taught composition and literature for four years and worked as an editorial assistant at the University of Pittsburgh Press. For the past two years, she has also worked as an online writing tutor with Smarthinking, Inc. Her areas of special interest include Victorian literature, late 18th/early 19th century German philosophy, and contemporary critical theory.
Dr. Cook is an avid novel reader and filmgoer. She likes anything directed by Peter Greenaway and Wong Kar-wai. Her favorite magazine is Ready Made, and she reads Salon and The Guardian regularly.
She lives in Portland, OR, where she indulges in music, art, and the occasional microbrew.
