Devon Douglas Bowers is the Winter 2012 Scholarship Winner

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (MARKET WIRE) — February 28, 2013 — Papercheck, a leader in essay editing services, announced that the Winter 2012 Charles Shafaé Scholarship Fund winner is Devon Douglas-Bowers, a second-semester junior at Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey, who is completing a degree in Political Science. Devon has made the Dean’s List each semester since 2010, and he holds a cumulative GPA to date of 3.34.

An active participant in the Legal Society on his school campus, Devon has always been fascinated with politics and political news media. Devon’s enthusiasm for politics has encouraged him to pursue a career in government research with the U.S. Department of State after he graduates. Devon’s work can also be read on www.foreignpolicyjournal.com, where his article submission related to foreign policy was published.

Devon spends the majority of his time perfecting his academic work in hopes to enter a master’s program to study international relations. His primary interests include reading and following his favorite political TV shows and politicians. House of War: The Pentagon and the Disastrous Rise of American Power by James Carroll is Devon’s favorite book, and he is also a frequent visitor of the political website The National Interest.

Devon would be thrilled to, one day in the future, meet his favorite politicians, Dennis Kucinich and Bernie Sanders, as well as American talk show host Tavis Smiley. “Mr. Smiley works for the betterment of society and explores topics that are not often spoken of,” stated Devon. Inspired by Smiley’s televised public discussions, Devon gladly accepted the opportunity to participate in a panel discussion of his own on post-racism in the media on February 12, 2013.

Devon’s winning essay discussed social media’s impact in modern society, specifically upon regular citizens, activists, nongovernmental organizations, telecommunication firms, and governments.

Papercheck received more than three dozen submissions for the Winter Scholarship Award. To be eligible, a student must be an undergraduate in good standing at an accredited four-year U.S. university or college and maintain at least a 3.2 GPA. Each scholarship winner must write an essay of at least 1,000 words on a subject selected by Papercheck. Essays are judged on grammar and content.
