Abigail Airoldi is the Summer 2011 Scholarship Winner

SAN FRANCISCO, CA — (MARKET WIRE) — August 16, 2011 — Papercheck, a leader in editing and proofreading services, has announced that the Summer 2011 Charles Shafaé Scholarship Fund winner is Abigail Airoldi, a junior at Quinnipiac University who is enrolled in the entry-level Doctorate of Physical Therapy (DPT) program. Applicants to this highly selective dual undergraduate/graduate program are selected by the Vice President of the University and the Dean of Admissions.

Traveling is one of Abigail’s passions. While studying abroad at University College Cork, she was able to travel throughout Europe. She was surprised at the generosity and friendliness from the locals, which encouraged her to form many cross-cultural connections. Abigail hopes to take her professional career to another country one day and create her own roots.

This summer, Abigail is merging her studies with her eagerness to help other people. She is volunteering at a summer camp for people with disabilities. At a young age, Ms. Airoldi learned to take people for who they are and ignore their physical appearance. The summer camp exploits her joy in helping others, a quality that the DPT program seeks to instill in its students.

Abigail’s winning essay described the effect that pop culture has on consumers and how the large brands use this influence to raise sales.

Papercheck received over 134 submissions for the summer scholarship award. To be eligible, a student must be an undergraduate in good standing at an accredited four-year U.S. university or college and maintain at least a 3.2 GPA. Each scholarship winner must write an essay of at least 1,000 words on a subject selected by Papercheck. Essays are judged on grammar and content.

Papercheck has released a new scholarship topic for Winter 2011:
On July 12, 2011, Netflix announced a new pricing structure that would allow its members to choose between unlimited streaming and unlimited DVD rentals. The new changes ultimately constitute a 60% price increase for those customers who utilize both the DVD and streaming options. Within hours, the company’s blog and Facebook pages were inundated with comments in protest of these changes.

  1. Do these price changes affect your interest in Netflix? Do you think this price increase is justified? What improvements could be made to justify the new price changes?
  2. How will these changes affect the financial future of Netflix? How does Netflix now compare to competing companies such as Blockbuster, Hulu and Amazon?
